The International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) was founded in Chicago in 2001 by Claire Chase. The ensemble presented its first concert at the Three Arts Club in January 2002 and made its New York City debut at the Miller Theatre the following year. Since then, ICE has premiered over 500 compositions, including works by notable composers such as Georges Aperghis, Alvin Lucier, Pauline Oliveros, and John Zorn. The ensemble has performed at prestigious venues like the Lincoln Center Festival and Musica Nova Helsinki, and held residencies at institutions including the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and New York University. ICE's discography includes collaborations with artists such as Missy Mazzoli and David Lang. Currently based in Brooklyn, New York, ICE continues to be a leading force in contemporary classical music under the artistic direction of George E. Lewis.
