Biography

Inezita Barroso was a monumental figure in Brazilian folk and música caipira. Her professional recording career began in 1951 with the tracks "Funeral de um rei Nagô" and "Curupira." Over several decades, she recorded more than eighty albums for labels like RCA and Polydor, including Seleção de ouro (1977), Inezita Barroso e Roberto Corrêa (1979), and the celebratory 80 anos (2005). Renowned for her mastery of the viola and guitar, she became a dedicated folklorist, preserving traditional rhythms through her performances and her long-running television program, Viola, Minha Viola.
