Biography

If was a British progressive rock and jazz-rock band formed in 1969. The group, originally consisting of Dave Quincy, Dick Morrissey, and Terry Smith, released its self-titled debut album If (1970) under Island Records in the UK and Capitol Records in the US. The band toured extensively across Europe, the United States, and Canada between 1970 and 1975, performing at festivals such as the Newport Jazz Festival and the Reading Festival, and at the Fillmore East on November 10, 1970. Their subsequent albums include If 2 (1971), If 3 (1971), Waterfall (1972), Double Diamond (1973), and Not Just Another Bunch of Pretty Faces (1974). The band's lineup underwent several changes over the years before the group disbanded in 1975. Quincy and Smith reformed the band in 2015, releasing the album If 5 (2016), which was followed by the live compilation album IF Live at the BBC (2022).
