Biography

Geno Washington & the Ram Jam Band, a UK-based soul band, was formed around 1964 by Pete Gage and Geoff Pullum. They recruited Geno Washington, an American airman known for his impromptu performances in London nightclubs. Their first single featuring Washington, "Shake, Shake, Senora" / "Akinla" (1965), did not achieve commercial success. The band's breakthrough came with their live album Hand Clappin' Foot Stompin' Funky-Butt ... Live! (1966), which reached number 5 on the UK Albums Chart in 1966. Notable singles include "Water" and "Hi Hi Hazel". They disbanded in autumn 1969, with Washington continuing as a solo artist before returning to the United States. In 2005, Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band actively began performing shows with members such as Greg Lester and Nick Blake.
