Hutch Harris, born on October 5, 1975, in New York City, is an American songwriter, musician, and guitarist. His family moved to San Jose, California in 1983, where he met Kathy Foster after graduating from Prospect High School in 1993. Together they moved to Portland in 1998 and formed The Thermals in 2002. Harris wrote and recorded the band's debut album More Parts per Million in early 2002. Sub Pop Records heard the recording via Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie and The Postal Service, signing The Thermals to a three-record contract. The Thermals released seven studio albums between 2003 and 2016 before announcing their split in 2018. Harris released two 7" singles under the name Forbidden Friends on the Kill Rock Stars label in 2011. He released his debut solo album Only Water in 2018. This was followed by Old Lost Days in 2020, which was a compilation of early songs.
