Hương Thanh, born in Saigon, Vietnam, is a singer known for her work in various genres, including Cai Luong and jazz fusion. She began her musical training at age 10, studying Cải Lương and traditional singing. At 16, she made her stage debut and later emigrated to Paris in 1988 due to political events in Vietnam. In 1995, Hương Thanh met Vietnamese guitarist Nguyên Lê, marking her first contact with jazz and world music. She released her early albums Chuyá»n ba ngưá»i (1995) and "Moon and Wind" (1999). Her album Fragile Beauty (2007), a duo project with Nguyên Lê, reached number 2 on the World Music Charts Europe in April 2008. In 2007, she received the Prix Musique des Musiques du Monde from France Musique for her interpretation of traditional Vietnamese music.
