Biography

Human Feel is an American jazz quartet formed in 1987 when clarinet and tenor saxophone player Chris Speed, bass clarinet and alto saxophone player Andrew D'Angelo, and drummer Jim Black were studying music in Boston. Guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel joined the group in 1990. The band's debut album Human Feel was released on Human Use in 1989. In the early 1990s, the members relocated to New York City. Their subsequent albums include Scatter (1991), Welcome to Malpesta (1994), and Speak to It (1996). Human Feel is known for combining elements of free jazz, chamber music, and alternative rock, featuring extensive improvisation in their performances. The group released Galore in 2007 and Gold in 2019.
