Biography

Hudson Mohawke is the stage name of Ross Matthew Birchard, a Scottish DJ and electronic music producer who helped shape the genre's growth during the 2010s. He was born in Glasgow on February 11, 1986, and raised by the popular American actor Paul Birchard. After participating in DJ competitions as a teenager, he formed the record label in LuckyMe in 2007 and began releasing a string of EPs, including 2007's Puzzles. His debut album, Butter, was released two years later by Warp Records and helped popularize the so-called "wonky" genre, which paired unstable beats with genre-bending electronic influences. Now championed by fans and peers alike, Hudson Mohawke collaborated with Kanye West in 2012 and appeared on the rapper's collaborative album, Kanye West Presents: Good Music – Cruel Summer, as a co-producer. One year later, he co-produced two songs on West's hit album Yeezy. Meanwhile, Mohawke released additional music as a member of the production duo TNGHT and returned to his solo career with 2015's Lantern, which peaked at Number 10 on Billboard's Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. DedSec – Watch Dogs 2 (Original Game Soundtrack) followed in 2016, featuring original music composed for the titular video game. After several years of collaborating with other artists, Hudson Mohawke released his fourth studio album, Cry Sugar, in August 2022.
