An American band influenced by shoegaze, emo and grunge, Hotline TNT was formed in New York in 2018 around guitarist and vocalist Will Anderson. A former member of Weed, the underground rock activist nicknamed Flip Sandy was part of several other bands before creating this project. Several self-produced cassettes and singles in the DIY ("Dot It Yourself") spirit were released, including the album Nineteen in Love (2019), hailed for its pop melodies buried beneath a wall of distorted guitars a la Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound". In 2022, the When You Find Out EP, released between Go Around Me (2019) and Spring Disco (2023), marks an evolution towards shoegaze and is also very well received by specialist critics. While Anderson remains the sole master on board, changes of musicians are frequent between each release, as are tours between the U.S. and Europe. In 2023, Hotline TNT, which had attracted the interest of several labels, signed with Third Man Records created by Jack White (The White Stripes) and released the album Cartwheel, more accomplished in its production without sacrificing the intrinsic quality of its compositions. Hotline TNT has become a cult band on the underground scene, and with this album and the following one, Raspberry Moon, released in 2025, it has taken a new step towards a wider audience.
