She sings in earlier films such as Illusion in Moll; in Silk Stockings, she celebrates success on Broadway in the role of Ninotchka from 1954 to 1956. The recordings of the play also sell well in the USA. in 1957, she recorded an EP with several songs in England and later also jazz records in France. In Germany, the single "Er war nie ein Kavalier" became a sales success before Hildegard Knef released her first LP, So oder so ist das Leben (No. 8 in the German charts) in 1963. With the titles "Aber schön war es doch" (1963), "Mackie-Messer" (1963) and "Eins und eins, das macht zwei" (1964), she once again entered the German singles charts. As a chanson singer, she was now also given her first shows on German television and the LPIch seh die Welt durch deine Augen was also a great success in 1966. In the 1970s and 1980s, her numerous album releases failed to make it into the charts. her last LP, 17 Millimeter, was released in 1999 and was once again a respectable success in the charts.
