Herschel Lee Sizemore was born on August 6, 1935, in Sheffield, Alabama, and was raised in Leighton, Alabama. He was an American mandolinist known for his contributions to bluegrass music. His early exposure to bluegrass came at age eight when his parents took him to see Bill Monroe perform at the Grand Ole Opry. He began his career playing with established bluegrass bands, including the Dixie Gentlemen and The Boys from Shiloh. Sizemore was also a member of Jimmy Martin's band, the Shenandoah Cut-Ups, Country Grass, Del McCoury's Dixie Pals, and the Bluegrass Cardinals. He released his first solo album, Bounce Away, in 1979, followed by Back in Business in 1993, My Style in 2000, and B-Natural in 2009. His best-known composition was the mandolin instrumental "Rebecca", named after his mother. In 2011, Sizemore was inducted into the Alabama Bluegrass Hall of Fame. He passed away on September 9, 2022, at the age of 87.
