Biography

The Hep Stars were formed in Stockholm in 1963 and became one of Sweden’s most successful pop groups of the 1960s. The early lineup included Jan “Janne” Frisk, Lennart “Lelle” Hegland, Christer “Chrille” Pettersson, and Hans Östlund, originally performing under the name Quartet Yep before shifting toward rock and pop. They changed their name to The Hep Stars and soon added lead singer Svenne Hedlund. Their breakthrough came with "Cadillac" (1965), followed by hits such as "Farmer John". Benny Andersson joined as keyboardist, strengthening the group’s classic lineup. Albums such as We and Our Cadillac (1965) and The Hep Stars (1966) marked their peak popularity across Sweden and neighboring countries. The group played its last gig in 1969 and soon split after internal and financial difficulties.
