Biography

Formed in 1995 in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, Heltah Skeltah was an East Coast hip-hop duo featuring Jahmal "Rock" Bush and Sean "Ruck" Price. The two rappers made their official debut on 1995's Dah Shinin', an album by fellow Brooklyn-based rap duo Smif-N-Wessun. That same year, Rock and Ruck partnered with the hip-hop group O.G.C. to form The Fab 5, a rap supergroup whose debut single "Leflaur Leflah Eshkoshka" became a hit. Heltah Skeltah then released its own debut, Nocturnal, in 1996. Charting at Number 35 on the Billboard 200 and Number 5 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, Nocturnal featured singles like "Operation Lock Down," "Da Wiggy," and "Therapy," all of which were Top 20 hits on Billboard's Hot Rap Singles chart. A second album, Magnum Force, appeared in 1998 and was similarly successful, reaching Number 34 on the Billboard 200. The band split up for a decade after Magnum Force's release, ultimately reuniting in 2008 for Heltah Skeltah's final release, D.I.R.T. (Da Incredible Rap Team). The album reached Number 35 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in America. Seven years later, Sean Price passed away at 43 years old on August 8, 2015, officially bringing Heltah Skeltah — as well as Price's solo career, whose highlights included a pair of Top 10 albums on the hip-hop charts — to an end.
