Biography

Real name Heather Allison Frith, singer, songwriter and musician Heather Nova hails from Bermuda, where she was born on July 6, 1967. The daughter of a Canadian and a native of the island, she grew up with her younger brother Alexander, who would go on to become known as a reggae singer under the name Mishka, and spent a lot of time traveling on the family sailboat. After learning guitar and violin, she began composing her first songs and moved to the United States to study at the Rhode Island School of Design, graduating in 1989. She chose music, however, and moved to London, where she recorded the EP Heather Frith (1990) under her real name. It was under the name Heather Nova that she made a name for herself, following a debut album entitled Glow Stars (1993) and a live album called Blow, released the same year. In 1994, the album Oyster (#72 in the UK) and its lead single "Walk This World" (#69), followed by "Maybe an Angel" (#91), opened the way for her in the charts. Four years later, its successor Siren (no. 55) established the artist in several other European charts, and included the hits "London Rain" (no. 87) and "Heart & Shoulder" (no. 76). A constant presence in the German charts, Heather Nova's albums South (2001) and Storm (2003) reached #5, followed by Redbird (2005) at #10. After a collaboration with Swedish band Eskobar in 2002, the pop-rock and folk singer teamed up with German DJ ATB (André Tanneberger) in 2007, who remixed the track "Renegade " (ranked no. 38 in Germany). In a more rock style, she then produced the albums The Jasmine Flower (2008), the self-financed 300 Days at Sea (2010), The Way It Feels (2015) and Pearl (2019), on which bassist and producer Youth collaborated, before the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2022, Heather Nova returned with the cover album Other Shores, ranked No. 20 in Germany, and continued with the eclectic pop and folk collection Breath and Air (2025).
