Biography

Formed in the Canadian town of Peterborough, Ontario, Christian rockers Hawk Nelson have become fan favourites with a modern twist on traditional Christian music with relatable lyrics appealing to all ages. Since their 2004 debut 'Letters to the President', the band initially toured around Toronto with their fanbase growing rapidly. They achieved their first taste of commercial success after appearing as The Who on the television drama 'American Dreams' covering 'My Generation', as well as lending tracks to several other shows and movies in the following years. After being voted Favourite New Artist by CCM Magazine in 2006, the band released their second album 'Smile, It's the End of the World' - gaining even more acclaim and spawning number one single 'Everything You Ever Wanted', which stayed atop the Christian CHR chart for nine weeks. In 2012, lead vocalist Jason Dunn announced his departure from the group to pursue a solo career as Lights Go Down, being replaced with guitarist Jonathan Steingard. With a departure from their long-established pop punk sound, Hawk Nelson mellowed to a more alternative rock style on the release of their first album since Dunn's departure 'Made'. Hawk Nelson have been nominated for, and subsequently won Canadian GMA Awards, and been nominated Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the Year on a number of occasions at the JUNO Awards cementing themselves as a household name in Canadian Christian rock.
