Biography

Hannes Mikael Waldemar "Hasse" Walli, born on February 10, 1948, in Finland, was a guitarist known for his contributions to jazz, rock music, and world music. Starting with drums at around ten years old, Walli transitioned to electric guitar and began performing with various bands in the early 1960s. His professional career launched in spring 1966 with Jormas, a popular Scandinavian band. After Jormas disbanded, Walli formed Blues Section, which released their seminal eponymous album before disbanding in late 1968. In the mid-1970s, he formed Piirpauke, blending folk music, ethnic sounds, and progressive jazz rock. Walli's solo albums include Hasse Walli (1981) and Sounds Afro (1982). Notable achievements include being named Musician of the Year by Katso magazine in 1981.
