Biography

Harry McClintock, also known as Haywire Mac, and born on October 8, 1882, in Uhrichsville, Ohio, was a singer-songwriter, radio personality, and actor. He started his career as a railroad man before becoming a singer-songwriter. In 1925, McClintock's performance of "The Big Rock Candy Mountains" at a KFRC Radio talent contest secured him spots on two new radio shows. The single also reached Number 1 on Billboard's Hillbilly Hits chart in 1939 and was featured in the 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou?. McClintock passed away on April 24, 1957.
