Biography

Árni Egilsson, born on May 22, 1939, in Reykjavík, Iceland, is a bassist and composer known for his work in both classical music and jazz. After studying in Reykjavík and Hamburg, Egilsson moved to the United States in 1969, where he began working as a studio musician. His early collaborations included sessions with notable artists such as Tom Waits on Closing Time (1973) and Jaco Pastorius on Word of Mouth (1981). He released several albums under his own name, including the fusion album Basso Erectus (1979) and Basses Loaded (1991). Egilsson's career spanned various genres, including work with Earth, Wind and Fire on Powerlight (1983), Prince on Parade (1986), and collaborations in classical music with John Barbirolli and the Houston Symphony Orchestra. Egilsson also composed works for various ensembles and orchestras, as well as solo vocal pieces and choral music.
