Biography

Grzegorz Jerzy Turnau, also known as Grzegorz Turnau, born on July 31, 1967, in Kraków, Poland, is a pianist, composer, poet, and singer. At age seventeen, he won First Prize at The Student Song Festival in Kraków in 1984. He joined the Piwnica pod Baranami Cabaret and released his debut album, Naprawdę nie dzieje się nic, in 1991. Turnau's music style falls within the broad genre of sung poetry, influenced by artists like Marek Grechuta and Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz. Notable albums include Cafe Sultan, a collection of his own versions of songs by Jeremi Przybora and Jerzy Wasowski, released in 2004. Turnau has achieved significant chart success with several of his albums receiving gold and platinum certifications in Poland.
