Biography

At the forefront of the música mexicana (Mexican regional music) explosion that gripped the US Billboard charts in 2023, Edinburg, Texas-based Grupo Frontera formed in 2022 and cut their teeth on the local scene before being catapulted to national fame for their norteño cumbias three years later. Composed of members Adelaido "Payo" Solís III (vocals, bajo quinto), Juan Javier Cantú (vocals, accordion), Julian Peña Jr. (congas), Alberto "Beto" Acosta (bajo quinto), Carlos Guerrero (drums), and Carlos Zamora (bass guitar), the group first found fame on TikTok with their cover of Morat's "No Se Va," which paved the way for their hit collaboration with Californian regional Mexican group Fuerza Regida. "Bebé Dame" shot to the top of the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart in December 2022, as well as reaching number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100. In May 2023, they scored their first Top 5 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with the Bad Bunny collaboration "Un x100to," which paved the way for their debut studio album El Comienzo, released via VHR Music in August 2023. Along with the aforementioned Bad Bunny collaboration, the album contained link-ups with Junior H, Yahritza y su Esencia, Grupo Firme, and others. Also in 2023, the group won the Best Regional Mexican Fusion award for "Un x100to" at the Premios Juventud that year. Their second studio album, Jugando a Que No Pasa Nada, surfaced in May 2024. A self-released effort, the LP was produced by Edgar Barrera and Casta and packed in guest appearances from the likes of Maluma and Christian Nodal. With Jugando a Que No Pasa Nada, the group sought to expand their cumbia-led sound into other realms, folding in elements of R&B, bachata, and pop, while looking to Shakira's newly diverse sonic palette for stylistic inspiration. Driven by singles such as the norteño cumbia Latin pop fusion of "Los Dos," recorded with Colombian band Morat, the album peaked at number 10 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums Chart. 2025 saw the release of the EP Y Lo Que Viene, featuring contributions from Carín León, Netón Vega, Mister Chivo, and Manuel Turizo on "La del Proceso." The next major step came on October 23, 2025, with the release of their third studio album Lo Que Me Falta Por Llorar, issued via BorderTown Records, a 13-track project that blended their norteño-cumbia base with high-profile guests including Myke Towers on "Triste Pero Bien Cabrón," Tito Double P on "Échame la Mano," Fuerza Regida and Cris MJ on "Tu Favorito," Los Dareyes de la Sierra on "Mi Droga" and Ozuna on "No Lo Ves." Shortly after its release, the album reached number 11 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart.
