Biography

Gregory Hutchinson (born June 16, 1970) is an American modern jazz drummer from Brooklyn, New York. The son of a percussionist, Hutchinson began drumming at age three. After training with Justin Diccicio, Marvin "Smitty" Smith, and Kenny Washington, Hutchinson studied at the Manhattan School of Music. Hutchinson performed in Red Rodney's band (1989–1990) and with Betty Carter (1990–1992). Between 1992 and 1995, Hutchinson was the drummer for Roy Hargrove. In 1995, Hutchinson joined the Ray Brown Trio. Hutchinson began a collaboration with Joshua Redman in 2001, appearing on the album Come What May (2019). Hutchinson recorded with Joe Henderson on Lush Life: The Music of Billy Strayhorn (1991) and with Peter Bernstein on Signs Live! (2017). He performed with Dianne Reeves, Wynton Marsalis, and Diana Krall. In 2022, Hutchinson performed in a trio with Gerald Clayton and Joe Sanders.
