Biography

Gregor Hübner, born on May 23, 1967, in Germany, is a violinist and pianist. He studied classical violin, jazz piano, and composition at the Conservatories of Vienna and Stuttgart. In 1985, Gregor Hübner and his brother Veit formed Tango Five, performing at major events including the World Exhibition in Seville (1992), Hanover (2000), and the Athens Olympics (2004). The band disbanded in 2012. Hübner collaborated with Richie Beirach on several albums, including Round About Frederik Mompou (2002), which was nominated for a Latin Grammy. In 2017, he received the Grand Prize for New York Philharmonic’s New World Initiative Composition Challenge for his composition "New World, Nov 9. 2016." Hübner's critically acclaimed Latin Jazz album El Violin Latino (2011) was selected as a Noteworthy Recording of 2011 by the Latin Jazz Network and won third Best CD on WBGO New York.
