Biography

Grant Calvin Weston (also known as G. Calvin Weston and Calvin Weston) , born on June 6, 1959 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is an American jazz, funk, and rock drummer. He began his musical journey as a youth and joined Ornette Coleman's band Prime Time at the age of 17, recording three albums with them. Following this, he collaborated with guitarist James "Blood" Ulmer, John Lurie, and The Lounge Lizards. Weston has released over two dozen albums as a leader or co-leader, including Dance Romance (1988) with Ulmer and Jamaaladeen Tacuma, and Acceleration (2015) with Weston/Saxon Groove Assembly. He has been a member of the Free Form Funky Freqs trio with Vernon Reid and Tacuma.
