Graeme Emerson Bell, born on September 7, 1914 in Richmond, Victoria, was an Australian Dixieland and classical jazz pianist, composer, and bandleader. He began playing piano at age 12 and transitioned to jazz through his younger brother Roger. By 1935, Bell was performing with Roger at Melbourne dances and clubs. In 1941, he formed the Graeme Bell Jazz Gang, which later became the Australian Jazz Band. The band toured Europe in 1947, including a performance at the World Youth Festival in Prague, and released their first recordings for William Miller's Ampersand label in 1943. Bell was a prominent figure in Australian jazz, and his Leicester Square Jazz Club was known for their distinctive style described as "nice larrikinism" and "a happy Aussie outdoor feel". He passed away on June 13, 2012.
