Biography

Gordon Brisker (born 6 November 1937 in Cincinnati) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist, flautist, and educator. He began on piano as a child and studied woodwind instruments at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. After playing with Ralph Marterie, he attended Berklee College of Music and later earned a master's degree from California State University. Between 1960 and 1963, he performed in Woody Herman's Big Band, followed by tenure in New York with Louie Bellson and Gerry Mulligan. Settling in Los Angeles, he established a career as a studio musician and collaborated extensively with Anita O'Day and Bobby Shew. He taught at Berklee from 1983 to 1985 before moving to Australia in the 1990s to teach at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. His leader discography includes Cornerstone (1983), The Gift (1996), and My Son John (2001). He died on 10 September 2004.
