Biography

Giuseppe "Gipo" Farassino, born on March 11, 1934, in Turin, Italy, was a singer-songwriter and politician. His career began with early releases such as Le canssôn d' Porta Pila in 1964. Farassino's breakthrough came in 1968 with the album Avere un amico, which featured his most well-known songs in Italian. Throughout his career, he produced over 30 albums and nearly 50 singles, many of which were in the Piedmontese language and inspired by French chanson. Farassino's political involvement included membership in the Italian Communist Party (PCI) and later leadership roles in regionalist parties such as the Piedmontese Union and Lega Nord Piemont. He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1992. Farassino passed away on December 11, 2013.
