Gilfema is a jazz trio consisting of guitarist Lionel Loueke, drummer Ferenc Nemeth, and bassist Massimo Biolcati. Formed in 2005, the group met at Berklee College of Music and chose their name from the first syllables of their respective names: Gil (Lionel Gilles Loueke), fe (Ferenc), and ma (Massimo). Loueke hails from West Africa, Nemeth is from Hungary, and Biolcati is an Italian born in Sweden. They also perform together as the Lionel Loueke Trio when playing Loueke's original material. They released their debut studio album, Gilfema (2005), through ObliqSound. They followed this with Gilfema + 2 (2008), which featured guest clarinetists Anat Cohen and John Ellis. After two decades of professional collaboration, they returned with the studio album Three (2020) on the Sounderscore label. Albums include Karibu (2008) under the moniker Lionel Loueke Trio.
