Biography

Georgia White, born on March 9, 1903 in Sandersville, Georgia, was an African American blues singer. By the late 1920s, she began performing in clubs in Chicago and released her first recording, "When You're Smiling, the Whole World Smiles With You", with Jimmie Noone's orchestra in 1930. White recorded over 100 tracks for Decca Records, including notable songs like "You Done Lost Your Good Thing Now" (1935). She also recorded under the name Georgia Lawson and formed an all-female band in the 1940s. White continued to perform in clubs throughout the 1950s, notably at the Blue Pub in Chicago from 1959 onwards. Her song "Alley Boogie" (recorded in 1937) was used as the theme music for the British romantic comedy drama series Love Soup, and her version of "Hot Nuts" was featured in the 2022 film, Jackass Forever. White passed away around 1980.
