Gene & Debbe are an American country music duo from Nashville, Tennessee. Gene Thomas, born Gene Thomasson on December 28, 1937, in Palestine, Texas, had minor success as a solo artist with songs like "Sometime" and "Baby's Gone" (1964) before transitioning into songwriting. He penned tracks for notable artists including Waylon Jennings, Kenny Rogers, the Everly Brothers, and Tina Turner. Gene & Debbe formed in the mid-1960s when Gene met aspiring crooner Debbe Neville. They signed with TRX Records, a subsidiary of Hickory Records, and released their biggest hits "Go With Me" and "Playboy". The latter achieved gold record status in June 1968 with combined sales of one million discs. Their only album together, Hear and Now, was released the same year. Gene & Debbe married in 1968 and had a son, Gebron, but divorced shortly after. Following their split, both pursued solo careers; Debbe later retired from music after marrying her third husband and having a daughter in 1983. Gene Thomas passed away on August 26, 2012, at the age of 74 due to lung cancer.
