Biography
Gaz Mawete, real name Gaël Kapia Mawete, is a Congolese singer-songwriter and dancer born on September 30, 1993 in Kinshasa. He made a name for himself in 2017 by winning the Vodacom Best of the Best All Star competition, which led to his signing with the Bomaye Musik label. The following year, he met with great success with"Olingi Nini", which went viral on YouTube and propelled him onto the Afropop scene. In 2019, he took part in Dadju's album with the track"Mwasi Ya Congo" and performed at the Zenith in Paris alongside Naza. His debut album, Puzzle, was released under Bomaye Musik before he announced the end of his collaboration with the label in November 2022. In recent years, Gaz Mawete has stepped up his collaborations with major artists: in 2020, he sang"C'est raté" with Fally Ipupa and "Mwasi Ya Congo" with Dadju, then"Tika" with Vegedream in 2021. He also collaborated with Niska on"Dendisa" in 2023. With his style blending Congolese rumba, Afropop and hip-hop, he has established himself as one of the most influential artists of the new musical generation in the DRC.
