Harold Owen "Gary" Wilmot, born on May 8, 1954 in Lambeth, London, was a British singer and actor. His early life was marked by his mixed-race heritage; his mother was English, and his father, Harry, was Jamaican. Wilmot's musical career began with the release of "Who Needs to Dream" in 1994. He gained significant attention through his television work, including hosting Showstoppers, a program featuring musical performances alongside special guests. In 1996, he released his album The Album. Wilmot's chart success included The Bare Necessities Megamix, a medley of songs from the Walt Disney film The Jungle Book, which peaked at number 14 in the UK charts in December 1991. He was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2018 Birthday Honours for services to drama and charity.
