Garrison Fewell, born on October 14, 1953, in Charlottesville, Virginia, was an American jazz guitarist who began playing guitar at age eleven. He started his professional music career in Philadelphia in 1967 and studied jazz guitar at the Berklee College of Music from 1973 to 1977. Fewell's debut album, A Blue Deeper than the Blue, was released in 1993, featuring collaborations with Fred Hersch, Cecil McBee, and Matt Wilson. Throughout his career, he worked with notable musicians such as Roy Campbell, Jim McNeely, George Cables, Steve LaSpina, and Billy Hart. Fewell's albums include Are You Afraid of the Dark? (1995), Reflection of a Clear Moon (1996), Big Chief Dreaming (2005), and Tribal Ghost (2013). He passed away on July 5, 2015.
