Schatzi, an American rock band from Oklahoma, was formed in 1996 by Montez Williams, Christian Kyle, Jason Westbrook, and Jason Altman. The group initially played together in Brave New World before moving to Austin, Texas, where they recorded their first album under the name Blunderwheel. In 1998, Schatzi released their debut album, Joanie Loves Schatzi. The band gained significant attention with their EP Death of the Alphabet, which received heavy airplay on Austin's KROX-FM. This led to a major-label bidding war in 2001, culminating in a signing with Mammoth Records. Their full-length album Fifty Reasons to Explode reached Number 1 on the "Radio 200 Adds" chart of CMJ New Music Report in March 2002 and appeared on the magazine's "Radio 200" list for 11 weeks, peaking at number 20. Schatzi disbanded in 2005 but reunited for shows in 2009 and 2012.
