Biography

Trevell Gerald Coleman, aka G. Dep (which stands for 'Ghetto Dependent'), is one of the rappers who signed on with the Bad Boy family in the years following the death of The Notorious B.I.G.. Coleman was born in 1973 and raised by his grandmother in the James Weldon Johnson Housing Project. He began rapping in the mid-'90s, signing with Tape Kingz and dropping a couple of records. When he met Sean Combs, however, his career was put on fast forward thanks to a five-album record deal with Bad Boy. He made a host of guest appearances on the albums of Bad Boy artists such as Black Rob and, as Bad Boy moved into its Saga Continues phase, Dep became one of Combs' (now performing as P. Diddy) right hand men. Dep's debut album on Bad Boy came in the form of 2001's 'Child of the Ghetto'. The album peaked at number 23 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart while its single 'Special Delivery' got to number three on the Hot Rap Singles Chart. Dep proved to be a casualty of Bad Boy's `Saga Continues' era, however, and he subsequently dropped out of sight for several years before re-emerging with 'Bad Boy', a collaboration with fellow Bad Boy casualty Loon. He followed up with his second album, 'Ghetto Legend', in 2010.
