Biography

Frederic Curzon was an English composer associated with his work in theatre, early cinema, and light music. He began studying multiple instruments at a young age and by 16 was playing piano in theatres. By 20, he was accompanying silent films with his own compositions. Curzon became the organist at Shepherd’s Bush Pavilion from 1926 to 1934, composing scores commissioned by Louis Levy. In 1938, he focused full-time on composition, creating music for the radio comedy series ITMA starring Tommy Handley. Notable works include The Boulevardier and Punchinello. Curzon died on December 6, 1973 in Bournemouth. His music has been recorded as part of the Guild Light Music series, with a Marco Polo CD of orchestral music issued posthumously in 1992.
