Biography
Frederick Gardner, born December 23, 1910, was a British jazz saxophonist. He took up the saxophone at 15 to help alleviate asthma and formed the semi-professional New Colorado Band in 1928, winning a contest at Chelsea Town Hall. In 1933, Gardner recorded with Ray Noble's New Mayfair Orchestra. During World War II, he served in the Royal Naval Patrol Service but continued recording under the name Freddie Gardner and his Mess Mates. Post-war, he freelanced extensively, including as a soloist with the Peter Yorke Concert Orchestra for BBC radio programs. His notable recordings include "I Only Have Eyes for You" in 1948. Gardner died on July 26, 1950.
