Fivespeed was an American rock band formed in Peoria, Arizona, United States, in 1997, later based in Phoenix, Arizona. Initially influenced by punk and hardcore movements, the band released their self-titled debut EP, also known as First of the Compact Cars, on Sunset Alliance Records in 2000. Their breakthrough came with the 2002 release of Trade In Your Halo, produced by Larry Elyea, which helped the band gain significant exposure and led to a major label deal with Virgin Records. After releasing the EP Bella in 2005 on Equal Vision Records, Fivespeed issued their Virgin Records debut album Morning Over Midnight in 2006, featuring the single âThe Mess.â The band went on hiatus later in 2006. They reunited in early 2009 and continued performing and recording, later receiving Best Rock Band and Best Alternative Band at the 2010 Arizona Ska Punk Awards. In 2011, they released their EP The Way We War.
