First of October is an American-Canadian indie rock and comedy rock duo formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 2018. The group consists of multi-instrumentalists Rob Scallon and Andrew Huang, who established the project with the goal of writing and recording a ten-track album within a single session. Their debut, Ten Hours, was recorded at Uptown Recording on October 1, 2018. Subsequent albums, recorded in twelve-hour sessions, include Gourmet Ravioli (2019), Gotta Record Everything Good (2021), CHAOS (2022), and Across the Road (2023), the latter of which was recorded at Abbey Road Studios. The group typically records on the first of October annually, though the 2024 album, Round 6, was delayed to October 19. Their seventh album, One Week, was recorded in a Guitar Center and released in 2025. Throughout their discography, Scallon and Huang utilize a diverse array of instruments, including the balalaika, theremin, and synthesizers, often incorporating lyrical references to a recurring character named Greg.
