Biography

Farmers Market is a Norwegian band founded in 1991 in Trondheim. Originating as a free-jazz group, the band became known for an eclectic mix that prominently includes Bulgarian folk music alongside jazz and other styles. Their debut album Speed / Balkan / Boogie (1995) was drawn from live recordings at Moldejazz 1994 and features performers associated with Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares. Later releases include Musikk fra Hybridene (1997), Farmers Market (2000), Surfin’ USSR (2008), and Slav to the Rhythm (2012). The album Surfin’ USSR (2008) received the Spellemannprisen (Open Class).
