Militia was a US-based hip-hop group formed in Oakland, California. The group consisted of Jamaal Smith ("Diz") and Donald Silas ("Deviuz"), who initially started as a duo, later joined by Lord G (Mkonto Fields), Mr. Tan (Olan Thompson), and Ms. Toi (Toikeon Parham). Each member brought diverse backgrounds to the group: Diz from Oklahoma City, Deviuz and Ms. Toi from Los Angeles, Lord G from Detroit, and Mr. Tan from Long Island. Militia's debut single "Burn" was released in 1997, marking their first recorded work as a duo. The song, which humorously addressed the search for marijuana during recording sessions, became their breakthrough hit. In 1998, Militia released their self-titled debut album Militia under Red Ant Entertainment. "Burn" was the lead single from this album and reached Number 52 on the US Billboard Hot 100, selling 119,000 units. The group's subsequent singles included "Whoâs the Next" in 1998 and "Rippin' The Sound / Yeah Yeah" in 1999. Despite their initial success, Militia disbanded in 1999.
