Biography

Fal Frett, a jazz group from Martinique, was formed in 1976 by Jacky Bernard, Alex Bernard, and Nicol Bernard. The band initially included Bib Monville, Jacky Alpha, and Ralph Thamar, with the Bernard brothers remaining as the core members throughout its history. Fal Frett gained prominence as one of the first Martiniquan groups to blend jazz with Caribbean music, evolving into a group known for its creole songs and improvisational style. Their breakthrough came in 1982 when they were revealed at the Angoulême Festival, leading to extensive tours across France, Colombia, Ivory Coast, Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean. Fal Frett's discography includes albums like Fal Frett (1976) and Histoire D'une Vie (2013), with their music becoming standards in Caribbean culture. Jacky Bernard, a key composer and pianist, passed away on August 20, 2021, at the age of 69 due to complications from COVID-19.
