Biography

Faith Brothers was an English pop-rock band formed in London in 1982 by singer-songwriter Billy Franks. Blending guitar-driven pop, “blue-eyed soul,” sophisti-pop, and indie rock, the band built a reputation for its thoughtful songwriting that addressed political and social themes. Their debut single, “The Country of the Blind” (1985), reached No. 63 on the UK Singles Chart, followed by “A Stranger on Home Ground”, which peaked at No. 69 later that same year. The band’s debut album, Eventide (1985), was released on Siren Records (a subsidiary of Virgin) and included the singles “Eventide (A Hymn for Change)” and “Whistling in the Dark”. Although it was critically acclaimed for its blend of melodic rock, soul influences, and thoughtful lyrics, the album enjoyed only modest commercial success. Faith Brothers made a comeback in 1987 with their second and final studio album, *A Human Sound*, preceded by the singles “That’s Just the Way That It Is with Me” and “Consider Me”. Neither the album nor its singles charted, and the band broke up shortly thereafter. Despite their brief career, they remain respected for the sophistication of their songwriting and their refined blend of pop rock, soul, and new wave, while subsequent archival releases—including sessions for the BBC and live recordings—have helped preserve their legacy.
