Biography

The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, founded in 1981 by Tõnu Kaljuste, is a professional choir based in Estonia. Initially led by Kaljuste for 20 years, the choir later saw Paul Hillier take over as principal conductor and artistic director from 2001 to 2007. Daniel Reuss succeeded him until 2014 when Kaspars Putniņš became the principal conductor. The EPCC's repertoire spanned Gregorian chant to modern works, with a notable focus on Estonian composers Arvo Pärt and Veljo Tormis. Their discography included Forgotten Peoples (1992), Beatus (1997), and Litany to Thunder (1999). The choir has been nominated for numerous Grammy Awards, winning twice: in 2006 with Arvo Pärt's "Da pacem" and in 2012 with Pärt's "Adam's Lament". In 2017, they won the Gramophone Award for their recording of Psalms of Repentance by Alfred Schnittke.
