Biography
Jackie Lee Cochran, born February 5, 1934, in Dalton, Georgia, was an American rockabilly musician known as Jack the Cat. He began playing guitar at age six and started performing locally in Gadsden, Alabama. After enlisting in the Air Force, Cochran performed on Slim Willet's radio show in Abilene and later founded the Flying C Ranch Boys in Selma, Alabama. In 1956, he released his first singles with Sims Records and appeared on Cliffie Stone's Hometown Jamboree. His single "Ruby Pearl" with Decca Records nearly hit the Billboard charts but fizzled due to contractual issues. Cochran restarted his career during the rockabilly revival in Europe, releasing albums on Rollin' Rock Records and touring extensively. Notable releases include Swamp Fox (1974) and The Lonesome Drifter (1981). Cochran died March 15, 1998, in Burbank, California.
