Eric Person, born Eric Anthony Person on May 2, 1963, in St. Louis, Missouri, is an American saxophonist and composer known for his work in creative jazz. He began playing the saxophone at age seven, receiving initial instruction from his father, Thomas Person. In 1982, Person moved to New York City, where he played with notable figures such as John Hicks, Ronald Shannon Jackson, and Chico Hamilton. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he collaborated with artists including Vernon Reid, McCoy Tyner, Woody Shaw, Onaje Allan Gumbs, David Murray, and Jackie McLean. In 1993, Person joined the World Saxophone Quartet as a successor to James Spaulding, and from 1994 to 1998, he played with Dave Holland. He founded his group Meta-Four in the mid-1990s and began solo performances. In 2008, Person established the band Metamorphosis, which blends electronic music and funk. His debut album, Arrival, was released in 1993.
