Elvis MartÃnez (January 5, 1976) is a popular Dominican singer-songwriter in the bachata genre. Also known as âEl Jefeâ or âEl Camarón,â he had a tough childhood in his hometown of San Francisco de Macoris and had to work a series of odd jobs to help his family. In the early 90s, Elvis MartÃnez relocated to New York, where he learned to play the guitar under the tutelage of Aventuraâs Lenny Santos. Shortly after, he was signed by the label Premium Latin Music and released his studio debut Todo Se Paga in 1998. Thanks to hits like âAsà Fueâ and âMe Seguirás Buscando,â the album was both a critical and commercial success, earning MartÃnez an ACE Award in the category of Revelation of the Year. He followed up with the full-length Directo al Corazón (1999), which proved just as popular as its predecessor, spawning the hit singles âBailando Con Ãl,â âTú Sabes Bien,â and the albumâs title track. His hot streak continued with the LPs Tres Palabras (2002), Asà Te Amo (2003), and Descontrolado (2004). More accolades ensued, including a Casandra Award for the song âAsà Te Amoâ and a nomination for the Lo Nuestro Awards in the category of Best Traditional Tropical Artist. Following his departure from Premium Latin Music, he struck a record deal with Univision Records and released the full-length Yo Soy Más Grande Que Ãl in 2005. One of his best-selling albums, the LP enjoyed great success in the Latin market through the singles âTu Traiciónâ and âYo No Nacà Para Amar.â Subsequently, Elvis MartÃnez issued the albums La Luz de Mis Ojos (2007), Esperanza (2012), Yo Vivo Por Tà (2019), and the compilation Mega Ãxitos (2020), which featured the fan favorite âMaestraâ and other hits. 2022 saw the release of the studio album Mi Muchachita, followed by the live LPs Bachata En Vivo, Vol. 2 (2023) and Bachata En Vivo, Vol. 3 (2024).
