Biography

Eleanor Shanley is an Irish singer from Keshcarrigan, County Leitrim, Ireland who was born into a musical family. She moved to Dublin, where she worked at FAS and studied drama with Betty Ann Norton while performing in local sessions. In 1990, Shanley made her debut as a singer with the traditional group De Danann, remaining with them for five years. Her collaborations include performances with Ronnie Drew, Christy Moore, Sharon Shannon. Notable releases include Eleanor Shanley (1995), Desert Heart (1997), Another Day’s Journey (2004), A Place of My Own (2007), Forever Young (2015), and Cancion de amor (2020). Her cover of "Gorgeous and Bright" by Thomas Moore was notably the most played track on RTE 1 Radio in the summer of 2015. Shanley has also collaborated with Frankie Lane, Paul Kelly, Eddi Reader, Tommy Fleming, Desmond O'Halloran, Dolores Keane, Christie Hennessy, and The Dubliners.
