Biography

Buenos Aires–born singer and songwriter Gaby Díaz, known as El Tecla, came up through Argentina’s cumbia scene in the 2000s and crystallized his solo profile with the 2009 debut album Único en Su Especie, whose staples include “Mírame a la Cara,” “Te Amo,” and breakout favorite “A Chillar a Otra Parte,” also picked up on the Parada Tropical, Volumen 2 compilation from that era. After steady regional touring, he issued the follow-up Aquel Que Había Muerto in 2016, foregrounding the ballad-leaning “Si la Ves.” A return to broader activity arrived with El Regreso (Volumen 1) in 2021, then two 2022 projects, Inéditos and Sesión con los Éxitos de la Ihuana Mary (En Vivo)—the latter revisiting songs popularized by La Ihuana Mary and reaffirming his link to the cumbia villera songbook. He refreshed his catalog in 2023 with the single reissue of “A Chillar a Otra Parte,” a Part 2 update of “Mírame a la Cara,” and a duet version of “A Chillar a Otra Parte” with Huguito Flores el Super that broadened his streaming footprint. Momentum continued into 2024 via the album Latidos, pairing new material with covers and collaborations—among them “Ámame” with Grupo Uno, a cumbia take on “Un Montón de Estrellas,” and the duet “La Miel de tus Labios” featuring Jackita. Most recently, 2025 brought the singles “Cosas Pendientes” with El Rodri and “el peso de un ángel” alongside Tres Seis Nueve, extending his mix of romantic cumbia and dancefloor-forward arrangements.
