Biography
Eisbrecher are considered to be part of Neue Deutsche Härte, a subgenre of alternative metal precursors with techno and hardcore influences. founded by Alexander Wesselsky and Noel Pix in 2003 in Fürstenfeldbrück, Bavaria, the self-titled debut album Eisbrecher was released in 2004. After touring with industry heavyweights such as In Extremo and Suicide Commando, the second album Antikörper entered the German album charts for the first time. Eisbrecher, now joined by René Greil on drums and Maximilian Schauer on keyboards and in turn saying goodbye to Michael Behnke on bass and Felix Homeier on guitar shortly after the release, also find an astonishing balance between industrial rock and synthetic electro elements in their exciting metal design. This recipe took them to number 18 in the LP parade in Germany on Sünde (2008), now their third album. After that, the climb was even steeper: Eiszeit (2010), which reached fifth place, was followed by the two Golden Record-winning top 3 works Die Hölle muss warten (2012) and Schock (2015). in 2017, the time had come: Sturmfahrt, now distributed by RCA Records , catapulted Eisbrecher to pole position on the German album list and also entered the top 10 in neighboring Austria and Switzerland. Bonus on top: a 2018 ECHO nomination in the national rock category. in 2020, the cover album Schicksalssmelodien expands the oeuvre of the five-piece band, which at this point consists of founding members Alexander Wesselsky and Noel Pix, but is also joined by Jürgen Plangger (guitar), Achim Färber (drums) and Rupert Keblinger (electric bass). A very promising line-up, which scores its next coup in 2021: Liebe macht Monster becomes Eisbrecher's second number 1 opus. After the compilation Es bleibt kalt°! (2003-2023) in 2023, another studio album, Kaltfront°!, is released in mid-March 2025. The album climbs to number 2 in Germany. In Switzerland it reaches number 17.
