Biography

Singer and songwriter Edwin McCain was born in Charleston, South Carolina on January 20, 1970. He is best known for his American Top 40 hits “I’ll Be” (1998) and “I Could Not Ask for More” (1999). His recording career began in 1991 with the release of his independent album Nomadic Logic. He released on more independent album – Solitude (1993) – before signing to Atlantic Records at the same time that his friends Hootie and the Blowfish signed to the label. His major label debut, Honor Among Thieves, was released in 1994 and reached Number 107 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. His next album, Misguided Roses (1997), featured the hit single “I’ll Be” that rose to Number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. McCain’s 1999 album Messenger contained the Top 40 hit “I Could Not Ask For More”. He released one more album for Atlantic/Lava – Far From Over – in 2001 before leaving the label. McCain has maintained a steady touring and recording ever since, issuing a series of well-received albums including Lost in America (2006), Mercy Bound (2011), and his holiday-themed album Merry Christmas, Baby (2019).
